Crouch End based Fine Artist Dawn Freeborn presents a collection of Textile Art inspired by her own “Threads of Motherhood”.

The work focuses on her relationship with craft through her family matriarchy as well as her more recent personal experience of motherhood in London. She aims to open up a

dialogue about the connection between past and present in relation to the passing on of skills between generations.

Originating from Co.Donegal, Ireland, Dawn graduated with a first class Honors Degree in Textile Design from Galway and Mayo Institute of Technology in 2006 and went on to gain

a Post Graduate Diploma in Community Art Education at the National College of Art and Design in 2008. She has worked as an Art Tutor in further education and Visual Artist in a

community context in Dublin before relocating to London and training to be a Primary Teacher in 2012.

Her artwork evokes personal and emotionally charged concepts, exploring place, identity and objects through a variety of mediums including textiles and photography.

This collection consists of installation and textile prints created through the process of photography, transfer and screen printing.

A selection of her original work will be available for sale.

The Artist will be holding an open discursive platform in a free and informal environment of shared dialogue within the gallery on International Women's Day Thursday 8th March, 3-4pm and on Friday 9th March 2-3pm. These are an opportunity to discuss topics including Motherhood in 2018 and the relationship between craft and motherhood with opening exploratory questions such as:

How is motherhood different or similar  with previous generations?

Who do we look to for guidance on motherhood in 2018?

Is motherhood affected by an urban or rural context?

What value does craft have in modern family life?

Is there a danger that craft skills may be lost for the next generation?

Does the future of craft depend on geography?

Who do we learn craft from now and how has this changed relationships?
